UNSUCCESSFUL AGM 2022

No Nominations Forthcoming

A sad outcome to the AGM held 19 November in that there were no nominations for the position of President. In a desperate attempt for the Coffs Harbour Garden Club to continue to function, there will be a Special General Meeting on 21 January 2023. If there are no nominations for President, the club will be forced to fold.

From Fair Trading NSW:

Involuntary cancellation

An association’s registration may be cancelled by NSW Fair Trading if:

  • the association is not in operation
  • the association has fewer than 5 members
  • the association has failed to establish and maintain a committee
  • the committee does not include 3 or more members, each of whom is over the age of 18 years
  • the committee does not have at least 3 members residing in Australia
  • the committee has not appointed a public officer who is over the age of 18 years and is a resident in NSW
  • the association has been providing a financial gain for its members
  • the association has not held an annual general meeting for 3 years
  • the association has not lodged an annual summary of financial affairs for 3 years
  • the association has failed to comply with a direction to change its name
  • the association was registered because of fraud or mistake, or
  • it is in the public interest to do so.

Where this cancellation action occurs, the association’s property comes under the control of Fair Trading. Fair Trading will determine what is to be done concerning payment of the association’s surplus and distribution of any property and the winding up of the association’s affairs.

AGM’s are the time for all members of a club to recap and think how they can contribute towards the successful running of a great community organisation.

This AGM is quite major as we need a President, Vice President and a Treasurer.

Coffs Harbour Garden Club (CHGC) have been around for many years fulfilling a role within our community, not only for its members but the wider Coffs Harbour Community as a well.

Yes, we are all very anxious and shy to take up a position and feel we don’t have the confidence to run with it but over time, communication skills kick in and we really ‘roll’ with the role!

Please contact President Margaret for further information on any of the major roles within the club – or any other way you think that you’d be of assistance to run the club.

It has been a passion for Margaret to see the Spring Garden Competition reintroduced since its demise during COVID lockdowns. We, as Garden Club members, are so very, very proud of our efforts over more than 30 years running this garden competition for the greater Coffs Council Area.

Come on! Put your hand up to help us out.
