Meetings

Our monthly meetings are not just all about the business of administration but engagement in relevant gardening related things too.

We have the following at our regular meeting:

  • Competition Table – this is an opportunity for our members to display their beautiful blooms, potted plants, fruits and vegetables at our monthly meetings AND go into the running for prizes at the end of the year.  There are two CHGC members who volunteer to judge this monthly competition. After the November meeting all cumulative points are processed to find 1st, 2nd and 3rd place-getters. There is also a random prize draw for anyone who has tabled exhibits over the year.
  • Gardener’s Diary – often we are lucky enough to have members who like to share their knowledge at meetings and give Powerpoint presentations or talks about garden related topics.  At other times during the year members who have been away visiting other points of interest and gardens give a presentation too. If you are a member of the club and would like to share something with the membership, please contact any of the Executive.
  • Guest speakers – Various speakers cover life skills and/or professional experience at our monthly meetings throughout the year – usually pertaining to gardens/gardening.
  • Trading Table – Members bring plants, flowers, fruits and vegetables to our monthly meetings which are sold to other members at a very small cost for the benefit of the club (funds contribute towards subsidising the Christmas function).
  • Social Interaction – Our meetings are always a great opportunity for like-minded folk to enjoy each other’s company.
  • Library of donated books we have many gardening books which have been donated to the club over the years, if you would like to borrow any, they can be found in the cupboard at the rear of the room – please fill in the book what you’ve borrowed/returned.

Activities

Each month (apart from our regular meeting) we enjoy visiting local gardens or places of interest and participating in the maintenance of the Coffs Airport Air-side gardens.

  • Monthly Outings – these visits are organised by members from both Coffs and Woolgoolga Garden Clubs and are looked forward to each month. It is a brilliant way for us to discover hidden delights within our region in the excellent company of like-minded folk. Members can enjoy visits to gardens, specialist growers and other places of interest. These outings are held on the last Thursday of each month. Carpooling is encouraged to allow all members the opportunity to attend. This is usually done at 9:15am at the Botanic Garden (unless otherwise advised). It is customary to bring a BYO morning tea to the first garden or other designated location. Full details can be accessed from the CHGC Newsletter (which is emailed to members), Minutes from our monthly meeting, on the CHGC Calendar and the flyer distributed by our Newsletter Editor. The outing usually culminates with a lunch somewhere near to the last destination for those members who wish to attend, contact will be advertised in the flyer and on the CHGC calendar as RSVP is usually required for our lunch destination.
  • Air-side Gardens – Coffs Harbour Garden Club have been associated with maintenance of the air-side gardens at the Coffs Harbour Regional Airport since 1996. This activity is one which the club is very proud of and we meet for around an hour of work and then go somewhere for either a coffee/lunch.  This represents basically (at least) a day’s labour of gardening – contact 0427 523 277
