There are approximately 20 species of herbaceous or evergreen perennial flower plants in the family Ranunculaceae, within which it gave its name to the tribe of Helleboreae. Despite names such as ‘winter rose’, ‘Christmas rose’ and ‘Lenten rose’, hellebores are not closely related to the rose family at all.

Winter Roses are a firm favourite for their ornamental diversity, easy care, evergreen foliage and long blooming winter flower. They look amazing in massed plantings and become valuable ground covers (especially in shady areas).
When we lived in Canberra we had a narrow raised bed along our fence line which didn’t get much sun and these beauties just thrived in that location. Their pendulous habit was beautifully displayed due to the raised bed.
The beautiful colour palette to choose from is amazing with very unusual combinations too. Choose from dark, plum shades, vibrant yellows, bright whites and a whole range of pinks some with patterns and some without, green even, just gorgeous. They can be single and open, double, frilled, pendent or outward facing – so much to choose from!
