Party Time for CHGC!

Coffs Harbour Garden Club saw out 2020 with the annual Christmas party, held at the Greenhouse Tavern in Coffs.

A very cheery and festive gathering attended and the winners of the Competition Table were recognised. It was a funny old year with not that many meetings held however, members need to be congratulated for lifting the spirits of members by bringing along some wonderful exhibits for the Competition Table.

Results were:

Margaret Hunt – $100 voucher
Mary Booth – $70 voucher
Bill Bright – $50 voucher
Robyne Moulds – $20 voucher – this was drawn from all members who had participated during the year.

Once again, the Tavern looked after us brilliantly with a complimentary entree of huge king prawns, followed by a massive meal of pork, ham and turkey, delicious potato bake, steamed broccolini, pumpkin and carrots with lashings of gravy, cranberry sauce and apple sauce. It was requested that as we are not lumberjacks the meal could be reduced this year….. but no, the potato bake may have been reduced by a millimetre or two, but that would be it as far as reduction to meal size went. The meal was rounded off with a gorgeous pavlova with fresh berry sauce and cream and the alternate dessert was traditional plum pudding, cream and ice cream and I have to say that the aroma wafting from that pudding was what Christmas is all about……. rich, groggy and fruit filled!

We had 29 attendees, there were some non attendees which allowed our standby list to come into play but the notice was a bit short for some. The raffles were awesome: President Margaret outdid herself and cooked up a storm of Christmas goodies which Sheena Peden was very excited to take home. New member Frank Punch snapped up the Caladium, an absolute beauty donated by Mary Booth – Mary Booth didn’t miss out on taking home some bounty too as she was delighted to have the garden tub brimful of Christmas bling donated by Mary Duroux. Not that we want to put anyone to work during the blistering heat, but Noeline Sell and Marg Crawley both took home garden tools. The lucky spot winner was Brenda Mayled and she has some work cut out for her too with some gloves and secateurs.
